Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Edmond John Ekele

Founder and CEO leading ExcelAgroVC's digital agriculture infrastructure vision.

Edmond John Ekele is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Excel Agro Value Chain Nigeria Limited (EXCELAGROVC), a Nigerian enterprise developing an AI-Powered Digital Agriculture Infrastructure Platform designed to connect farmers, agricultural MSMEs and other participants across the agricultural value chain with finance, insurance, markets, technology and essential business services.

An entrepreneur and multidisciplinary business professional, Edmond's experience spans commercial banking operations, microfinance, financial inclusion, FinTech, agriculture and agribusiness, entrepreneurship, digital business, strategic partnerships, and hospitality and tourism. This diverse professional background has shaped his understanding of two important but historically fragmented ecosystems: the financial system and the agricultural economy.

It is at the intersection of these two ecosystems that Edmond is building the EXCELAGROVC vision.

His vision is to develop a scalable digital infrastructure through which farmers and agricultural businesses can become more visible, identifiable, bankable, insurable, productive and market-connected. Through EXCELAGROVC, he seeks to bring together farmers, financial institutions, insurance companies, input suppliers, aggregators, processors, off-takers, logistics providers, government institutions, technology companies and development partners within an integrated agricultural ecosystem.

For Edmond, the future of African agriculture is not simply about increasing production. It is about creating the digital infrastructure that enables agricultural participants to access the right identity, data, finance, insurance, technology, markets and partnerships at the right time.

Academic Foundation

Edmond's multidisciplinary academic background combines business administration, entrepreneurship, accountancy and digital business.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration from ESUT Business School, Enugu State, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Entrepreneurship Studies from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from The Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State.

He has also undertaken postgraduate studies in Digital Business through Emeritus, in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management and Columbia Business School, USA, and has participated in the MIT Beyond Food Bootcamp, Class of 2017, where he received training in New Ventures Leadership in Taiwan.

His continuing interest in digital transformation, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies reflects his belief that the next generation of African businesses will increasingly be built around the convergence of technology, data, finance and real-world economic activity.

International Entrepreneurship and FinTech Exposure

Edmond's entrepreneurial journey has included exposure to international innovation, FinTech and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

In 2017, one of his FinTech startup initiatives, Confluence Cycle, a proposed revenue-sharing model focused on poverty alleviation, was invited as an exclusive pitch applicant to LendIt USA, a major international lending and FinTech industry event held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

The experience provided exposure to an international ecosystem of FinTech innovators, digital-lending businesses, financial institutions, investors, entrepreneurs and financial-inclusion initiatives. It also reinforced his interest in using technology and innovative financial models to address economic and social challenges.

In 2018, Edmond also represented another startup initiative at a Forbes 30 Under 30-related entrepreneurship event in Boston following platform validation work undertaken through his international entrepreneurship exposure, including his faculty engagement at MIT Technology Square in Boston, USA.

These experiences contributed to his understanding of startup development, innovation, business-model design, venture building, investor engagement, pitching and international entrepreneurial ecosystems.

More Than Two Decades of Professional Experience

Edmond brings over 20 years of professional experience across several interconnected sectors, including commercial banking operations, microfinance, financial inclusion, agriculture and agribusiness, entrepreneurship, business development, agricultural value-chain development, digital business, hospitality and tourism, and strategic partnerships.

His banking and financial-services experience has given him practical insight into how financial institutions assess customers, manage transactions, structure financial services and approach financial inclusion.

His agricultural and entrepreneurial experience, meanwhile, has provided a practical understanding of the challenges faced by farmers, agricultural MSMEs and rural businesses.

This combination is central to the EXCELAGROVC model.

Rather than viewing agriculture and finance as separate industries, Edmond sees an opportunity to build the digital infrastructure that enables them to interact more efficiently.

Practical Agricultural Experience in Kogi State

Edmond has developed significant practical exposure within the agricultural ecosystem of Kogi State, including work as a Consultant/Technical Partner to the Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

He has been involved in agricultural intervention activities covering cassava, maize and rice, including both wet-season and dry-season agricultural programmes during the 2024–2026 period.

Through this experience, Edmond and his team gained practical exposure to farmer mobilisation, rural communities, agricultural production, field-level implementation, government agricultural programmes and the operational challenges confronting farmers.

This practical experience has helped shape EXCELAGROVC's approach to digital agriculture.

The platform is being designed not simply from a technology perspective, but from an understanding of the realities of the farmer, the agricultural MSME, the financial institution, the aggregator, the processor and the market.

The EXCELAGROVC Vision

Edmond's central objective is to transform EXCELAGROVC into a scalable AI-Powered Digital Agriculture Infrastructure Platform capable of supporting agricultural ecosystems across Nigeria and, ultimately, other African markets.

The platform is envisioned as an interconnected digital ecosystem where:

Farmers and agricultural MSMEs connect to Digital identity and agricultural data

which connects to:

Finance + Insurance + Inputs + Advisory

which connects to:

Production + Aggregation + Processing

which connects to:

Logistics + Off-takers + Markets

and ultimately generates:

Digital transactions + agricultural intelligence + measurable economic activity.

Through this model, EXCELAGROVC seeks to make agricultural participants increasingly visible, verifiable, financeable, insurable and commercially connected, while giving financial institutions, government agencies, agribusinesses and development partners better tools to engage with agricultural communities.

Strategic Leadership as Founder and CEO

As Founder and CEO, Edmond provides the overall strategic direction of EXCELAGROVC and leads the development of the company's long-term vision, business model and expansion strategy.

His responsibilities include developing the Kogi State pilot, establishing the foundation for national expansion, building strategic relationships with financial institutions and government agencies, developing investor and development-partner relationships, and establishing the governance structures required for sustainable growth.

He leads EXCELAGROVC's engagement with potential partners across:

Banking and financial services;

Agricultural finance;

Insurance;

Government and public-sector institutions;

Technology and digital infrastructure;

Agribusiness;

Aggregation and processing;

Off-take and market development;

Logistics;

Development organisations;

Impact investors;

Strategic investors; and

International entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems.

A particular focus of his leadership is the development of institutional partnerships that can enable EXCELAGROVC to combine private-sector innovation with public-sector agricultural development objectives.

This includes exploring appropriate public-private partnership opportunities with government institutions and developing relationships with international development and investment organisations interested in Nigeria's agricultural transformation.

Building for Nigeria and Africa

Edmond's ambition for EXCELAGROVC extends beyond creating another agribusiness platform.

He envisions EXCELAGROVC as a digital infrastructure and orchestration layer for agriculture, connecting fragmented participants and services within the agricultural economy.

The immediate objective is to demonstrate the model through practical implementation in Kogi State and subsequently expand across Nigeria's agricultural markets.

Over time, EXCELAGROVC seeks to build partnerships capable of supporting expansion across Nigeria, West Africa and other African markets, while creating opportunities for international technology providers, financial institutions, investors, development organisations and agricultural businesses to participate in Africa's growing digital agricultural economy.

Leadership Philosophy

Edmond believes that sustainable entrepreneurship requires more than a compelling idea. It requires execution, partnerships, integrity, innovation, measurable impact and disciplined governance.

His leadership philosophy is therefore centred on building institutions that create value for multiple stakeholders: farmers, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, investors, governments, employees, strategic partners and the communities in which EXCELAGROVC operates.

His long-term goal is to demonstrate that African agricultural transformation can be accelerated when agriculture, finance, technology, data and entrepreneurship are deliberately connected through scalable digital infrastructure.
